Mila Hermanovski’s LOOKBOOK

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

If you’re like me, a huge fan of talent reality shows like Project Runway, you might be familiar with Mila Hermanovski. For those less obsessed, Mila is a native Dallas fashion designer who was second runner up on season seven of Project Runway, and also competed in Lifetime’s spinoff, Project Runway All Stars.

I always find it interesting to learn what inspired a person’s entrepreneurship and success. Mila’s inspiration for her ’14 fall collection, Excavate, is driven by art, design, and architecture. Here’s a little blurb from Mila about the Excavate collection: “The inspiration came literally from the massive construction project happening outside my studio window.  I watched the process daily throughout its evolution, from the demolition of the original deco period wood and brick building, to digging a gigantic hole, to laying rebar in a grid like pattern, to pouring seemingly endless amounts of concrete.  The series of work being done was at times both disturbing and fascinating.  The collection became a mix of textiles and shapes, architecturally-drawn influences, and incorporating textured with sleek.”

Check out the slide show above which features some of my favorite pieces from the timeless contemporary collection, Excavate.

Weekend Browsing – Holt Renfrew Montréal

Window-Shopping-Holt-Renfrew-QC_4983Hello, I hope you all are having a nice weekend so far! If you’ve had a chance to peek through my Instagram, you’ve seen me traveling quite a bit. Usually this time of year I like to go holiday window shopping on 5th Avenue to check out the lovely Christmas inspired windows, but since I’m currently in Montreal, I decided to get my window browsing fix here! Strolling along Sherbrooke Street I came across Holt Renfrew, a Canadian luxury retail shop. Their holiday inspiration of “Festive Lights” didn’t disappoint! Their mannequins displayed elegant outfits radiating holiday festivity. I hope you enjoy these snapshots!

5 Face – Friendly Foods

Screen Shot 2014-10-26 at 8.30.11 PM1. Papaya: When I’m done eating one, I rip up the peel and lay them all over my face, gently rubbing them in. Rinse after you’ve “soaked.” Papaya is known for its antioxidants, vitamin A, and especially its powerful enzyme papain, which “digests” and breaks down build up and toxins, leaving your face aglow.

Screen Shot 2014-10-26 at 8.31.54 PM2. Avocado: The bright yellow-green insides of a freshly ripe avo really do glisten and always make me think, “you are what you eat—and what you put on your skin.”  I take a pinkie-fingernail scrape of avocado and rub it onto the tops of my hands, the apples of my cheeks, or whatever else I want glistening.

Screen Shot 2014-10-26 at 8.36.40 PM3. Citrus peel: Before I toss the peel of an orange or grapefruit, I rub the insides of the peel on my face and neck. They have a cooling and cleansing effect (citrus is antibacterial), and in my mind, must be as good a practice as the vitamin C serum aestheticians are always praising. Go to the source! Rinse when you feel like it.

Screen Shot 2014-10-26 at 8.37.33 PM4. Aloe: Aloe is so easy to grow (the leaves regenerate when you cut their ends), I highly suggest having a few plants. Even a very small, thin slice gives you enough goo to spread a layer across your whole face. Seriously, try the gel on your forehead before you go to a party. You can leave it on all night. As it dries, it pulls the skin amazingly taut! It’s temporary, but highly satisfying. And of course, aloe gel is known to be nutrient dense and soothing to all kinds of skin issues.

Screen Shot 2014-10-26 at 8.41.21 PM5. Coconut Oil: There are about 1 bajillion home uses for coco oil, but its healthy fat and vitamin E content is simply good all around for dryness, peeling, cracking, and all kinds of skin disorders. When I add coco oil to any of my recipes, I rub any excess into my cuticles, nails, and elbows.

Do you put food on your face?

Morphew Launch Event

Hello Lovelies,
A few weeks ago, I was invited to attend a private launch party for MORPHEW, a luxury vintage fashion line. I was honored to be privy to the coming offerings for the iconic MORPHEW online retail store. In case you’re not familiar with the brand, MORPHEW is a luxury online retail platform where you can shop vintage and classic pieces sourced from around the world.

As the night went on, the MORPHEW models took us on a historical fashion journey. From the 1800s to the 1990s, including luxe bohemian, chic classic pieces reminiscent of the 50s-60s era, and couture glam, the pieces shown highlighted different designers, such as Yohji Yamamoto, Alexander McQueen, Karl Lagerfeld, Hervé Léger, Versace, Dior, Givenchy and more. The models were decked out in Eye of Ja jewelry which truly accentuated the luxurious vintage look. I’m a big fan of vintage pieces, especially purses! Do you have the vintage bug?

Corner Collection by Warby Parker

warby-parker-corner-sunglasses-2014Hello Lovelies,

Don’t you love how playful fashion can be? Especially when it comes to fashion accessories like glasses. For the longest time I’ve been a huge fan of Warby Parker. I like their concept of giving back to communities by providing a pair of glasses to someone in need for every pair of glasses Warby Parker sells.  Does not get much cooler than that!

Today is the launch of the latest Warby Parker eyewear collection, Corner Collection. It’s a mix of traditional shapes which come together perfectly to create really cool hues of eyeglasses and sunglasses, with styles such as Rhubarb and Quartz. I love how they appear simultaneously vintage and modern–with cool and intense color palettes. Below are a few pairs that I’m eyeing.

Killer Heels: The Art of the High-Heeled Shoe

Hello Fashionistas,

Last weekend, I was so excited to go to Brooklyn. I really don’t get there enough! Brooklyn has become so cool that it’s a must-visit next time you get to New York.

While in Brooklyn, I had the opportunity to check out Killer Heels: The Art of the High-Heeled Shoe , an exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum. As a self-diagnosed accessory obsessive, shoes are one of my favorite methods of self-expression, so I had to check out those one-of-a-kind stilettos! The exhibition consists of about 160+ historical and contemporary artfully crafted heels…everything from Chanel to Prada. My eyes were glued to the high heel inspired videos in particular. Below are a few heels and video images that I absolutely adore.

Happy National Coffee Day & Vegetarian-friendly Coffee Recipe

Happy Monday Y’all!!!

Did you know today is National Coffee Day?
So I thought, why not share my favorite coffee recipe with you. It’s vegetarian friendly with a twist. Enjoy!

Serves 8 – 30 minutes or fewer

  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 star anise
  • 4 allspice berries
  • 4 whole cloves
  • ½ cup packed dark brown sugar or 4 oz. piloncillo (Mexican raw sugar cones)
  • 2 cups medium grind, dark roast coffee beans
  • 2 cups Silk Original soy milk
  • 1 cup coffee liqueur, such as Kahlúa, optional

1. Lightly crush cinnamon sticks, star anise, allspice, and cloves with mortar and pestle. Place in resealable plastic bag, and pound with rolling pin. Transfer to large saucepan, and add sugar and 8 cups water. Bring mixture to a boil, and simmer until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat, add coffee, and let steep 5 minutes.

2. Meanwhile, warm milk in small saucepan, and whisk until frothy.

3. Strain coffee through fine sieve or coffee filter into pitcher. Stir in coffee liqueur (if using). Serve with frothed milk.

Spring 2015 Fashion Trends

New-York-Fashion-Week-2015-TrendsLeft to Right

Hello Lovelies,

Now that NYFW  is over, I can’t wait to share my thoughts with you on what new fashion trends I’m excited to see for spring 2015.  I loved the pastel vibe of the runway with all sorts of pretty and soft colors, such as baby blue and tangerine. I was equally smitten with the mix of bold floral prints and different hues, as presented by designers like Nicole Miller and Kate Spade. Herve Leger added a fresh and modern touch to their pieces, such as the Eastern inspired wrap top and kimono-like sleeves, as seen above, while Clover Canyon head-to-toe Japanese inspiration was even more vibrant.

If you were to ask which one of these outfits I would want, Otswald Helgason little roomy dress, screaming comfort, relaxation and all-season versatility would have to be it.

Did you follow the New York Fashion Week? Whose look did you like?

Pearl Power

Pearl-Power-Fall-AccessoriesAre you a classic white pearl girl? I have a couple of friends who I usually refer to as “pearly classic”. Regardless of the occasion, their white classic faux-pearl studs are always apropos. Just the same, I still always try to bring out their wild side, and persuade them to rock pink or darker-hued pearls which can bring just as much elegance and sophistication to an outfit. But, as it turns out, they had some pearls of wisdom for me! Classics are classics for a reason. Now, I’m a white-pearly classic girl too…but with a twist. Ever since Mise en Dior‘s jewelry collection, when the tribal inspired pearl earrings from Dior emerged, I’ve noticed white classic pearl earrings have been reinvented by including other pearl accessories and mixing in different colored materials, fabric, and even pleather. For an accessory addict like me – it’s heaven! If you’re not looking to spend $400 or more at Dior, but are still looking for nice, classic white faux-pearl accessories with a twist, here are few Pearl Power favorites I’ve curated for you – all under $50.

1: Pearl Connection Ear Cuff – $22
2: Rhinestone & Pearl Ear Cuff - $7
3: Suspension Pearl Drops – $28
4: Bracelets Cream Pearl Locket Charm – $48
5: Cut-Out Pearl Cuff Bracelet – $6
6: COCO Pearl Ring – $18
7: Pearl Dual Finger Ring – $25
8: Faux Pearl Cutout Cuff – $5.80

Happy Labor Day Weekend!!!

Hello everyone! Apologies for being MIA, I took a break because I am in the process of renting out my apartment and moving to the north pole, Montreal, brrrr! So I wanted to spend time relaxing with family and friends. Thank you for sticking with me on social media, for continuing to swing by here, and for your comments.

The cooling weather and upcoming Labour Day (note Canadian spelling!) holiday got me thinking about one of my favorite stores, C. Wonder, and their holiday sale. C. Wonder is offering up to 30% off on their full price merchandise, plus free shipping on orders over $100. I was able to spot a few noteworthy items which would be perfect transitional items, all under $90, for when the cooler weather sets in: The Shrunken Boy Shirt is marked down to $39 (from $78), the ikat print striped Zip Top Pouch is $24 (from $48), the Evil Eye Bangle is $25 (from $34), the semi A-line silhouette Lace Dress is $89 (from $178), The Easy Tote is $34 (from $68), and these platform Wedge Espadrilles are $49 (from $98).

C. Wonder’s sale is also available at their seasonal stores where you can enjoy treats, both baked and brewed, and get a free C. Wonder tote with any purchase of $100 or more. Happy Shopping!!!!

Summer Escape: Prague, 2

IMG_4408Prague was LOVE AT FIRST SITE!!! Every step I took unveiled a new spot, even more charming and romantic than the one before. I fell in love with the amazing and unspoiled architecture and design of the city. My cozy boutique hotel, Friday Hotel, in Old Town, was situated in the heart of all the shops and public squares. For you Manhattanites, think 5th Avenue meets 34th Street meets Union Square.

On my first day I was too jet-lagged to do much, and slept the afternoon away. But I made up for it over the next few days, discovering every nook and cranny of this unbelievably beautiful town by getting delightfully lost in the exquisite labyrinth of its cobbled stoned city streets. My favorite site was Prague Castle, where you can visit multiple palaces and enjoy the most breathtakingly romantic view of the city. At the far end of the castle grounds, built into the hillside and offering a stunning view of the city below, as seen below, was the most delightfully charming Starbucks. After a long, hot day of constant walking, it was an oasis at the corner of worlds old and new.

While reveling in the gorgeous view and quite possibly the best iced soy latte I’ve ever had, I serendipitously spotted this advertisement for Lo Veg restaurant. With its beautiful outdoor seating and prominent “Go Veg” signage, of course I had to check it out. It was delicious. If you like Pan Asian or vegetarian/vegan cuisine, I highly recommend it.

I hope you enjoy these pics and I’m looking forward to sharing more with y’all.

Don’t forget to check out a few of my travel essentials HERE :)!

Summer Escape: Vienna, Austria – 1

Travel-SeasonHello Lovelies,

I hope you had a splendid July 4th long weekend. By now some of you might know that I’ve been away from the keyboard for a while during my travels in Europe for a few weeks.  Despite my absence from the blog, I was actually working on the road. Between the time difference and the jet lag, work was rough! I absolutely do not recommend working on vacation, especially if it’s somewhere with a six or more hour time difference. One of my bosses told me that it was a bad idea not having a work/life balance…oh she was SO right!!!

vienna_austria_summer-travel-1My first stop in Europe was Vienna, Austria. Guys, I have to say Vienna’s airport is the best I’ve ever been to. The modern bathrooms, WIFI service, lounge areas…perfectly clean and accessible. Although it was just a quick stop-over, I decided to take the train from the airport to check out the town and get a bite. Besides walking around for food, I was too tired to do much else. I went to this amazing spot, Happy Cakes where everything was so delicious. If you follow me on social media, you might have seen a few of my favorites travel essentials, but in cased you missed it, see below for few intafaves. Looking forward to sharing more of my European journey with you soon.

Few-of-my-favesLeft to right:

1: I received the St. Tropez Dispenser by SmellBent in May’s POPSUGAR Must Have Box, and it smells amazing. It’s like they bottled summer! If you like the scent of coconut, then you will love this. The accompanying baubles are from Baublebar. If you’re a girly-girl and planning to come to New York City, I highly recommend you check out The Bar by BaubleBar. You’ll have a blast trying all the baubles.

2: This VSX Sport Bra was provided to me as a tester from Influenster. I’m not a big fan of wearing bras, and tend to wear reusable pasties instead. So, it took me a while to finally try out the VSX…just about as long as it took me to get up the motivation to start jogging again. I was tentative about the bra at first but discovered I really like the VSX Sport Bra! I don’t feel constricted, and felt like I was wearing one of my comfy crop tops. So, it was a pleasant surprise and I was happy to score it in such a fun color.

3: I’m forever grateful for my blogosphere bestie EssentJewels who recommended CLARINS Super Restorative Total Eye Concentrat. I had been looking for an eye cream for over a year, and while I’ve found some other good hydrating and refreshing eye products, this product proved to be the ultimate savior for all my eye care issues, including early stage wrinkles due to all my sleep deprivation. These Kerry Cassill also came in handy because I was long overdue for a new one. They are made of cotton fabric which is quite soft and I think they would make great gifts. Speaking of great gifts, you may recall earlier this year I mentioned that I purchased a Mario Badescu sunscreen. I am glad to say it didn’t disappoint. This is the first time that I used a facial sunscreen and didn’t breakout.  Enough said! :)

4: In case you were wondering about my summer reading list, The One & Only by Emily Giffin is at the top. As you can see in this picture, I am a late-comer to the neon trend which some might say is already “passé.” But, to those I reply with one of my favorite expressions, “what’s old is new again!”

Bright Pink & Treasure Yellow

I usually skip the nail polish portion of my mani because, well, what’s the point? It usually doesn’t stay on my nails for more than a day….a day and a half if I’m lucky. But ever since my blogosphere bestie, CowboysandCrossbones, introduced me to Seche Vite a few months ago,  I’ve been loading up on nail polish like crazy. My most recent nail polish spree included Essie and Mineral Fusion who came out with a few fabulous bright shades this Spring. With Seche Vite, these two happy shades have been with me all week and are among my favorites for the season!

Mani-Monday-Mineral-FusionEssie lasted about 10 days while Mineral Fusion could’ve stayed forever. Seche Vite nailed it!

Reward Yourself!

Good morning, Everyone!

Ever since my college days when I was inundated with lucrative credit card offers, I’ve been a rewards fiend! I accumulated sufficient frequent flier points to travel the world (business class no less!), stay at fine hotels, and even save a bundle on my first car, all at NO COST, simply through keeping my eyes open and seizing upon great offers. Oh, who am I kidding, nothing simple about it. I was (and am) obsessed with maximizing my rewards and diligently scouting for the latest and greatest offers. There’s nothing I won’t do for points! So, I recognize there are actually costs involved…time, administrative hassle, and short term credit score implications (assuming one even has the credit score to qualify for all these offers). But, what if all these awesome rewards were available and truly FREE?
Enter Bing Rewards. Bing Rewards gives you credits just for searching! You can redeem credits for popular gift cards, sweepstakes entries, or even donate them to a charity of your choice. I hope you join Bing Rewards and I can’t wait for you to share with me what you’ve redeemed, and I’ll be sure to do the same. All you have to do is stay signed on your computer or iPhone and keep searching with Bing. Enjoy!

Denim Therapy

Happy Monday Everyone,

As you know from last month’s post, LipoLotion has become the newest weapon in my arsenal of tools to help me look fit. Unfortunately, I didn’t discover LipoLotion in time to spare my two of my favorite pairs of jeans from falling victim to my not keeping up with the gym during the dark days of winter.
Fortunately, it was Denim Therapy to the rescue! Denim Therapy is a service which promises to restore your fave pair of jeans, the ones you just can’t part with, regardless of the damage.Denin-Therapy111I was quite skeptical of Denim Therapy’s services, and at $8/square inch , I also balked at their prices. So, I decided to go to their office to check out their work first hand. Upon walking in, I observed one customer’s elation over having her favorite pair of jeans restored and rejuvenated. I asked to see her jeans and, almost unable to detect where a tear had been, I felt my skepticism give way to awe. For denim lovers like me, this service is nothing short of pure jeanius! I am thrilled to share my before and after pictures with you.

Any favorite jeans you can’t bare to part with? Tell us about them!

DT-Before-and-After DT-Before-and-After01

According to Denim Therapy, here are  five simple rules to follow and your jeans will love you about about as much as you love them!
1) You don’t have to wash your jeans after each and every wear!
2) Wash your jeans inside out in warm water. No bleach.
3) Air-dry your jeans. Try to avoid drying them in the dryer.
4) If you really must dry your jeans, tumble dry on low.
5) If all else fails, send your jeans to the dry cleaner.

Chrislie Beauty Picks

Beauty-Favorites-For-SpringHello Dolls,

Shopping on Chrislie Formulations has recently become one of my favorite pastimes with all of its new and fabulous product offerings! I fell in love with the brand’s campaigns; The Women’s Refugee Fund makes a measurable difference in the lives of women and children, and is the focus of Chrislie Formulations’ Measurable Difference products, and the Look Good Feel Better campaign, which is the focus of their LASHEM product line, teaches beauty techniques to cancer patients suffering the side effects of cancer treatment and is active in all 50 states.  Check out some of my favorite beauty product picks from Chrislie Formulations. Giving back never felt so good! MEASURABLE-DIFFERENCE-LASH-AMPLIFYING-MASCARA-PRIMER-REGENALASH1: Lash Amplifying Mascara & Primer w/RegenaLash, 14.99 – I am happy with this mascara because I no longer have raccoon eyes, and it keeps my lashes looking fresh all day. The lightweight formula goes on smooth and won’t clump your already applied mascara in case you would want to give your lashes an extra boost throughout the day. Lashem-Faux-Lashes2: Lashem Faux Lashes, $5.00 – For girls like me, who weren’t blessed with bold and sultry lashes, Lashem Faux Lashes are easy to apply and make eyelashes look fuller and darker.  I’ve had enough with the pricey extensions and I think these are perfect for the girl who wants long, luscious lashes . MEASURABLE-DIFFERENCE-LIPO-LOTION-MASSAGING-APPLICATOR3: LipoLotion W/Massaging Applicator, $69.99 – With spring upon us and summer approaching I fear that my bikini bod might not quite be in as good a shape as I would like it to be. I eat healthy and do yoga but for the past few months I haven’t lifted weights like I used to, and my butt & thighs are suffering for it.  I blame the dark winter days in NYC for keeping my aforementioned bottom at home, but excuses probably aren’t the answer.  LipoLotion on the other hand, just might be!  A temporary solution to be sure (and not a replacement for honest heavy squats), LipoLotion certainly fights my giggle in all of the right places. Again, without expecting dramatic changes, LipoLotion did enough to make me a believer. Now I just need to find the time to fit the ever so slightly time-consuming process into my day. Lashem-Colour-Strokes-Liquid-Eyeliner4: Lashem Colour Strokes Liquid Eyeliner, $20.00 – I found that eyeliners are the perfect way to define your eyes and can be the best makeup add-on when you’re not in the mood for mascara.  Applying eyeliner isn’t always the easiest task for me, since it requires a steadier hand than I have, but I found these eyeliners so long-lasting that at least I only had to apply them once to keep my fierce cat eyes throughout the night. The price is a little steep, but the quality is quite good. Lashem-Picture-Perfect5: Lashem Picture Perfect, $40.00 – I recently started using this amazing wrinkle cream at night because I found it a lot more hydrating than another cream I use during the day. My friends & family wonder why I use wrinkle cream since I have no wrinkles or fine lines…Exactly, I say!

A Peek From My Eggcellent Weekend

photo-4Lately, my world has been a whirlwind! I’ve been very busy and have fallen behind on a lot of personal beauty and health habits, including of course, blog postings on MFJ :). I get so upset when I fail to take advantage of the transitioning weather, because before you know it, it’ll be way too hot. This week and last, I managed to get in some quality girlfriend time, and if you follow me on Instagramyou might have caught a glimpse of one of my favorite wedding dress designers who just happened to be at a store while my girlfriend was trying on her dress.

Another friend of mine, a beauty junky like me, booked us for a mini facial from Mario Badescu at Lord & Taylor. Would you believe I live in NYC and I’ve never been to Lord & Taylor? The tourists probably know this city better than I do. I really need to take advantage of this city! Mario Badescu had a promotion in fact, free mini-facial and beauty samples to introduce customers to their products. I’ve been on the hunt for a facial sunscreen forever, so it was perfect timing for me to try their sunscreen. Of course, I’ll report back on Beauty Brands We Love!

I also managed to take advantage of a favorite childhood game, egg hunting, with few friends. Since April 1st, Faberge placed 270 eggs in the city, designed by several designers such as Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren. With your smartphone and a QR code you maybe able to find those eggs in city streets. All the eggs can be seen on display at Rockefeller Plaza until April 26 and are for auction, which you can see virtually. It was such a great idea to hop around egg-hunting with the girls. Check out few of our favorite vegan eggs :).

Where did your holiday weekend have you hopping?

March 2014 – 5 Beauty Brands We Love!

I love testing different brands, whether it’s fashion  or beauty, there’s something exciting about a making a discovery! For the past few months, I’ve been experimenting with a few beauty brands that I’ve either bought for myself or been given at events, and I’m now eager to share them with you. Below are just a few of my faves.

Have you ever tried any of these brands?

1: Beauty Mark – You can tell I’m out for a wild night with the girls by my fierce, yet completely noncommittal, beauty mark star tattoo :). Yup, this is how I’ve been spicing up and adding some edge to my beauty look. The Beauty Mark comes in two different sizes, jumbo and slim. So far I’ve been partial to the boldness of the jumbo star.

2: CurlKit – I recently signed up for CurlKit, a natural hair box subscription site which sends you a selection of 7 – 9 samples and full-size products that have been selected by expert haircare professionals. Every hair product on this site is for women/men with natural curly hair. I usually style my hair straight during the winter, but during the summer I go back and forth. I am very excited to give it try!

3: Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipstick –   I received this lipstick as a tester from Influenster several weeks ago. I don’t usually go for such vibrant colors, but once I gave it a try the daring color grew on me and I had a lot of fun playing dressed-up with it. This lipstick lives up to its word, and you’ll be hooked once you get used to having your lips so lushly infused with moisture.

4: Dear Clark –  If you want to revitalize your stressed hair, check out the resurrecting shampoo and conditioner from Dear Clark. I find it very gentle, giving my hair great body and shine without drying it out. I love what Dear Clark stands for.  All of Dear Clark’s hair products are packaged and manufactured in the U.S.A. and are sulphate free, paraben free, cruelty-free and gluten free.

5: Nuance Salma Hayek Firming Day & Night Cream – This is fairly new in my skincare regime but it’s quickly becoming a favorite. I was fortunately able to get my hands on a press sample and have been using this moisturizer every night. It does not disappoint when I awaken every morning to radiantly hydrated skin. I love the ingredients (rose petals, violet leaf, and lavender flower) which goes to work sealing in the moisture while I get my best beauty sleep.

JarJewelry01Hello Lovelies,

If you follow me on Facebook, you’ve probably seen a snapshot of the private viewing event for Jewels by JAR at the Met Museum which I attended for Women’s History Month.
Joel A. Rosenthal (JAR) is the first living jeweler to have a retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The exhibition included 400 pieces of very dramatic and luxurious pieces. In case you missed these gorgeous vintage inspired pieces on exhibit, here are a few I fell in love with and would love to share with you all. Enjoy!

Irish Spring

St.-Patricks-Day-Drink-and-DIYMy favorite season is spring, and St. Patrick’s Day, coming up this Monday, symbolizes for many that spring has indeed sprung. St. Paddy’s Day is kind of a big deal here in NYC, where we start celebrating days before by wearing green outfits and reveling at all the local pubs. I am not a big drinker, but this year I’ve decided to host some festivities and hone my bartending skills, giving me the perfect excuse to try out some Quinoa Vodka. I realize vodka isn’t exactly guinness or irish whiskey, but it still captures to holiday ‘spirit’. So, while perusing the aisles at my local wine and spirits shop, I came across Fair Quinoa Vodka. If you’re into the green lifestyle, you’re probably familiar with quinoa, the wonder-carb. It has high quality protein, riboflavin, is relatively low in calories, and is gluten free.

Fair-Vodka-DIY-St.-Patricks-DayI’ve rounded-up a few of my favorites to try from Fair Quinoa Vodka: Fairly Modest MuleVesperLemondrop,The Smokey Pueblo. I’ve also experimented with the Capachabra concoction as seen above, and am planning to add Shamrock Straw Toppers as decor for a nod to Saint Patrick’s Day (See above and below for DIY).

Ingredients – Capachabra
– 2 oz FAIR Vodka
– Splash of Sanpelegrino Blood orange water
– Lime zeste on top

DIY – Shamrock Straw Toppers
Materials: Card stock, Scissors, Bendable drinking straws in green
– Cut card stock into 5-inch squares.
– Fold each square in half diagonally, creating a triangle, and then fold in half once more to make a smaller triangle. Trim off outer points as indicated.
– Unfold paper halfway, as shown. Cut a small V at the bottom, in the center.
– Unfold shamrock, and crease diagonally, reversing the direction of the fold; repeat to make another diagonal crease. Slide card-stock shamrock onto one end of a green straw. Make a wish, and have a sip!

So, I am curious, is St. Patty’s Day as a big of a deal in your town? Will you be celebrating?

Favorite Find: Marais Has All The Summer Shoes On Your List

Gladiator-Sandal-Silver-Marais-USAHave you ever heard of Marais USA?
I hadn’t until a couple of days ago while prowling for shoe sample sales in NYC. So, for those of you who don’t know the brand I am happy to share my newfound favorite with you.  I fell in love with Marais USA for its vintage feel and menswear influence.  If you’re a girly girl who likes your oxfords with a little twist, or ballet flats with jewel accents, you might be a Marais girl :)!

Favorite-Find-Marais-USAThe two fabulous young ladies, Catherine Chen and Haley Boyd, who are behind the local NYC brand described the typical Marais girl as smart, stylish and quirky.  As for me, comfort and mileage are always my priorities in footwear, and these shoes might be just perfect for my upcoming summer adventures, while adding a dash of color to my style.

Salma-Hayek-Spring-2014-01Last week I was thrilled to attend the Nuance Salma Hayek Spring 2014 launch event where I got to explore the beauty and haircare line for the first time. How to Make a Floral Friendship Bracelet

Hello everyone,

The imminent approach of spring is usually all it takes to put one in my step, but after the brutal winter we’ve endured, thoughts of spring have already given way to visions of a warm, sunny summer.  I am looking forward to beach days, summer birthday parties, and outdoor weddings.  I have two summer weddings to look forward to this year, and in what’s becoming a growing and welcome trend, both of the brides have requested no wedding gifts.  This classy gesture is a testament to the purity of the occasion and the couple’s heartfelt desire to simply share their special moment with loved ones.  Ironically, this makes me want to give a gift even more!

So what do you give to a bride who wants nothing more than your friendship?  In thinking about how to express my feelings, while respecting the bride’s request, I came across this pretty DIY floral friendship bracelet by A Fabulous Fete.  Making my own fun, floral friendship bracelets for the bride and bridesmaids struck me as the perfect way to provide a small, thoughtful, yet tangible token of that friendship. Let me know what you think!

babys-breath-friendship-bracelet-2You’ll need: Colorful strands, tape, scissors, and a sturdy bloom like babys breath.

1: Knot the top of your strands and tape down to a flat surface.

2: Pull one string out of the group, loop under the rest of the string, back around and through itself like a knot.

3: Pull each knot up tight.

4: Once you are about an inch down, make a knot, but this time insert the stem of a small piece of your bloom. continue to make the knots, tucking in the stem until it is covered.

5: Keep adding your flowers until you have a long enough piece to create your bracelet, then end with a knot (as seen above).

Flash Me Find Me!

Flash-Me-Find-MeWhile bar hopping with my girlfriends in NYC  a couple of weeks ago, I encountered a European gentleman.  In no time at all we had struck up a conversation in French (hey, who says New Yorkers aren’t friendly!). Although our chat was engaging, my keen eye for accessories couldn’t help but notice the colorful bracelet worn by the tres chic monsieur.  Not just colorful, this bracelet had what appeared to be a charm, but with a QR code reader on the surface. My curiosity was piqued, and I needed to know more about the captivating trinket.

Flash-Me-Find-Me-Bracelets“Ah, you noticed ze Flash Me Find Me“, said the monsieur, who proceeded to inform me about the eye-catching arm party.  It turns out that the Flash Me Find Me is more than just an intriguing ornament and conversation starter, it is also a smart bracelet! So, how does it work?

Let’s say you want to share your Facebook profile, YouTube video, website, Twitter, Spotify playlist, business card, medical information, or emergency contact…this smart little gem can easily store and make readily available all of your customized information, accessible using any free QR code reader (available on the Appstore and Google Play (see the video below to see how it works)).
